Homer Nordic now welcomes both men and women to participate for the entire 16 week season!  We are excited to grow participation to provide masters-level ski fitness training to a broader sector of the community. Homer Nordic is a program of Homer’s Kachemak Nordic Ski Club (KNSC).

We will follow State of Alaska’s health mandates relative to guidelines on group sizes and outdoor activities.

Wash your hands before you come and wash after
Wear a mask when around others-please keep it on for the warm up – stay 6′-10′ from other people
Throughout the workout stay at least 6-10 feet away from others – when we sweat & breathe hard there are extra particles floating about
Keep your interactions with others to a safe distance
Do not come to practice if you are feeling sick – even for mild symptoms get tested.

We will be putting more details up about the practices, including videos – so you can do the workouts on your own or with a friend whenever you want.
Again- we are figuring out what makes the most sense and what is the most safe as we go- so this may change. Please stay safe, help the vulnerable members of our community stay safe, and only do what you feel comfortable doing.

This is a 5 month workout plan for skiers training for skiers who want to stay in good shape and challenge themselves to reach new levels in their workouts and skiing ability. We encourage all levels of skiers to come join us! Workouts will be adapted to all different levels. Every Sunday we will have workouts for the week posted. As we will be outdoors for group workouts please check for last minute location changes. Group workouts will start at NOON on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and start at 11 on Saturdays. Sundays will be rest days with some stretching and Friday will be a strength and balance session on your own. What to do for these on your own sessions will be given on Sunday with the rest of the plan. Technique tips will be during the warm up.

We will be structuring intensity of workouts based on a periodization plan. Intensity will vary from week to week going from easy to medium to hard and repeating. After each cycle we will up the intensity until 5 weeks before the Homer Marathon. At this point we will go to a 5 week race peak plan. We hope that there will be some participants who would like to go to a few races this year!

The weekly plan will generally flow as follows:

Monday: Balance and Specific Strength. 1 hour of level 1.

Tuesday: Hill Intervals Level 3 to 4.

Wednesday: 30 minutes of technique followed by a 60-90 minute distance ski.

Thursday: Speed Intervals Level 3 to 4.

Friday: Strength and balance on your own.

Saturday: Distance Ski 90-180 minutes Level 1. Great time for technique work for those interested.
